Visiting Game of Thrones Studio Tour.

By

Welcome to a new post! Today, I’m sharing an announcement that fills me with excitement. As you know, part of my work involves content creation on social media, alongside my photography—mainly focusing on film, literature, art, and travel. I don’t like to box myself into a single category, as I believe all these areas complement and enrich each other.

With this in mind, this month I visited Ireland and the Game of Thrones Studio Tour! An unforgettable experience for any fan of A Song of Ice and FireFire & Blood, and the entire universe created by George R. R. Martin. And yes—I sat on the Iron Throne! Of course, I did so in style, wearing my stunning Margaery Tyrell gown, handcrafted by the talented Fairy Cave, ready to conquer the Seven Kingdoms.

How to Get to the Game of Thrones Studio Tour.

Let’s start with logistics. My visit was scheduled for November 15, departing from Dublin early in the morning. It’s important to note that during weekdays, tickets with direct bus transfers to the studio are unavailable. However, you can reach Banbridge by taking the X1 bus from Busáras Central Station in Dublin. Once in Banbridge, a shuttle bus will take you directly to the studio entrance from The Boulevard shopping center.

🚨 Important! The studio does not have its own parking. Even if you’re driving, you’ll need to park at The Boulevard and take the shuttle bus from there.

A Unique and Unforgettable Experience.

One of the biggest surprises of the day was arriving just in time for a live talk by Tommy Dunne, the mastermind behind all the weaponry in Game of Thrones! With 25 years of industry experience, his impressive portfolio includes Braveheart(1995), The Fifth Element (1997), The Mummy (1999), Troy (2004), and most recently, Dungeons & Dragons (2023). Listening to him detail the craftsmanship behind each piece was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I even got the chance to chat with him briefly and take some photos in the studio’s green-screen area.

Then came the moment I had been waiting for—the start of the studio tour. From the very first room, the level of detail was breathtaking. Every section is meticulously designed to showcase the immense work behind an audiovisual production of this scale. Each part of the tour is dedicated to a different region or set from Game of Thrones, making it feel like a journey through Westeros itself.

Among the highlights:

  • Winterfell’s Great Hall, still intact from the final days of filming.
  • Castle Black and the Night’s Watch.
  • Dragonstone, complete with its spectacular throne (one of my absolute favorite moments—I was so emotional!).

Dining Like a Westerosi.

Halfway through the tour, the studio café offers a chance to rest and enjoy a themed meal inspired by the saga. I ordered the Winterfell Beef Kebab, and I can confidently say—it was the best beef I’ve ever had. The meat melted in my mouth! It came with a fresh salad and a side of sweet potatoes. The meal was so filling that I had no room left for dessert, meaning I had to skip the Arya Stark Pie (which is now on my must-try list for next time).

The Grand Finale: The Targaryen’s Doom.

The final section of the tour is its crowning jewel—the Iron Throne from the saga’s climactic scene. This room gives you chills. Alongside the throne, you’ll find Daenerys Targaryen’s conqueror outfit and Jon Snow’s costume, displayed among the ruins of the final battle at King’s Landing.

It’s hard to put into words the feeling of standing before the Iron Throne, crafted from real swords weighing over a ton. The dim lighting and immersive atmosphere make you feel like you’ve stepped right into the last moments of Game of Thrones. If you’ve also read Fire & Blood, the prequel detailing the Targaryen dynasty, the experience takes on an even deeper meaning.

Before leaving, don’t forget to stop by the gift shop for exclusive Game of Thrones merchandise. Unfortunately, I was pressed for time and couldn’t grab everything I wanted, but one thing is certain—I’ll be coming back. Next time, my wallet won’t be so lucky!

Special Giveaway on TikTok!

To celebrate this incredible experience, I’m currently hosting a giveaway on my TikTok account (open until December 5th). The prize? A special item from the Game of Thrones Studio Tour gift shop, plus two extra surprises! There will also be two additional winners who will each receive a costume design postcard featuring one of the characters from the series.

Final Thoughts.

If you’re a fan of Game of ThronesHouse of the Dragon, or Fire & Blood, this studio tour is a must-visit at least once in your lifetime. It truly transports you into the world of Westeros while revealing fascinating behind-the-scenes details. The studio team is fantastic—many of them even worked as extras in the show and love sharing their experiences, making you feel completely at home.

Honestly, if I could live inside the studio, I would!

See you in the next post,
A.
